2025 Daily Tour Itinerary
Day 1 • Guatemala City, Guatemala
Caravan welcomes you to explore ancient Mayan ruins, jungle rivers, and the wonders of the Belize Barrier Reef. Fly into La Aurora International Airport (GUA) in Guatemala City, Guatemala. Transfer on your own using the official airport taxi service to your Guatemala City hotel. Rooms are available for check-in after 4:00 p.m. Dinner is included only until 9:30 p.m.

Day 2 • Archaeology Museum
After breakfast, join Caravan for an 8:00 a.m. welcome briefing. Visit an archaeology museum to learn about the rich legacy of the ancient Maya. Enjoy lunch. Then, a sightseeing drive through the historic center of Guatemala’s capital. See the Metropolitan Cathedral dating from 1782 and the French-styled National Palace. The rest of the afternoon is at leisure. Enjoy your elegant hotel’s amenities including fine shops and an outdoor pool and spa. Enjoy dinner.

Day 3 • Quiriguá, Lake Petén Itzá
Today, enjoy a long scenic drive to the Petén region of Guatemala, the cradle of the Maya civilization. The drive time from Guatemala City to Petén averages nine hours, plus rest stops. Travel east and descend into Guatemala’s Caribbean region. Enjoy a box lunch. Then, visit Quiriguá, a remarkably preserved Mayan archaeological site and UNESCO World Heritage Site. See some of the world's largest stelae. Then, continue north through the Karst landscape, blanketed by rainforest. Arrive at your hotel for a relaxing three-night stay at your hotel on the shores of Lake Petén Itzá in the midst of the Petén rainforest. Enjoy dinner.

Day 4 • Flores Island Sightseeing
Morning drive to Flores. Enjoy a small boat transfer on Lake Petén Itzá to Flores Island. This is the charming colonial-style capital of Petén. Free time to explore and shop for souvenirs and handicrafts. Lunch is on your own. Return to your resort. Relax by your pool or simply enjoy views of the lake. Enjoy dinner.

Day 5 • Tikal
This morning, an unforgettable visit to the ruins of Tikal. Settled in 700 B.C. and UNESCO World Heritage Site, Tikal was the grandest of all Mayan cities. Here, see towering pyramids rise above the rainforest canopy while the sounds of tropical birds fill the air. Listen and look for howler monkeys, spider monkeys, and keel-billed toucans. Travel back in time as you stroll the jungle shaded grounds of this Mayan jewel. Visit Tikal's great plaza. See the towering Temple of the Grand Jaguar. Visit the Plaza of the Seven Temples and El Mundo Perdido (The Lost World). Enjoy Lunch at Tikal. Return to your resort. Dinner is on your own.

Day 6 • San Pedro, Ambergris Caye, Belize
Early morning departure to Belize, an English speaking ecological paradise. After crossing the border, continue to San Ignacio. Enjoy lunch. Next, drive to Belize City where you will embark on a 90 minute water taxi boat ride to Ambergris Caye. The largest of the 450 cayes gracing the Belize Barrier Reef. The island spans one mile in width and 25 miles in length. Arrive at your resort hotel for a relaxing three-night stay. Enjoy dinner.

Day 7 • Boat Ride, Hol Chan Marine Reserve
This morning, enjoy a boat ride over the turquoise blue waters of the Belize Barrier Reef. (Please note the boat ride time may vary and be scheduled in the afternoon or next day). Belize’s 190 mile long reef is second in length only to Australia's Great Barrier Reef. Departing from San Pedro, a 45 minute boat ride takes you to Shark Alley, a protected marine area, teeming with nurse sharks, Atlantic stingrays, and occasional sea turtles. Next, to the nearby Hol Chan Marine Reserve, a UNESCO world heritage site and Belize's best snorkeling spot. After anchoring, you have an opportunity to snorkel in shallow waters amidst colorful coral reefs and over 500 species of fish. Non-snorkelers can view marine life from the side of the boat. (Snorkeling gear is provided but bringing your own equipment ensures best comfort and fit). Return to San Pedro. Afternoon at leisure. Lunch and dinner are on your own.

Day 8 • San Pedro, Ambergris Caye
Enjoy a full day at leisure to explore the island or to simply relax at your beautiful hotel. Transportation on Ambergris revolves around walking, biking, or navigating a golf cart as the island only has a few full-sized automobiles. The sandy streets of downtown are lined with an array of small shops, art galleries, and restaurants. Lunch and dinner are on your own.

Day 9 • San Pedro, Belize City
Free time this morning in San Pedro. Lunch is on your own. Then, take a 90 minute water taxi boat ride from Ambergris Caye back to Belize City. You will arrive mid afternoon. Then, a sightseeing drive of the waterfront of Belize City, a former capital of the country, adorned with well preserved colonial architecture. Enjoy a farewell dinner.

Day 10 • Belize City, Belize
Your tour ends this morning at your hotel in Belize City. Breakfast is included only after 6:30 a.m. Caravan includes departure transfers with shuttle vans from the hotel on the day the tour ends from your hotel to Philip Goldson International Airport, (BZE) in Belize City, Belize. Hotel Camino Real Tikal is located in the Petén jungle and on the shores of Lake Petén Itzá. All rooms have air conditioning and feature a private balcony with lake views. The hotel has a pool, jacuzzi and a traditional Mayan sauna Bath, known as “Temazcal.” Free WiFi.
Days 6, 7, 8 • San Pedro, Ambergris Caye
Sunbreeze Hotel
The Sunbreeze Hotel is located in the heart of downtown, just steps from the shopping, dining and entertainment offered in San Pedro. The Spanish architectural designed building is set amongst lush tropical gardens and offers breathtaking views of the Caribbean Sea and the Belize Barrier Reef which is just a half-mile away. Transfer on your own from La Aurora International Airport (GUA) to your hotel, the Barcelo Guatemala City (7a Avenida 15 45 zona 9) in Guatemala City. Once you have exited customs and collected your baggage at the airport, proceed to the sidewalk outside of the main entrance. There, you will see white cars with the words "AirporTaxi Guatemala" on the rear passenger side door. This is the signage for the official taxi service of La Aurora International Airport. You can request your taxi here. The driving time from the airport to the hotel is approximately 10-20 minutes, depending on traffic. The cost will range from $10-$15 US Dollars plus tip. Payment is accepted in US dollars or Guatemala Quetzales, credit cards are not accepted. A currency exchange and ATMs are located inside the airport. When you arrive at your hotel, please identify yourself as a Caravan tour member to the front desk personnel.

Guatemala and Belize require a current U.S. passport valid for six months after your date of entry. Non U.S. citizens, please check passport and visa requirements. Note: If you are travelling with children under 18 years old without both parents or legal guardians, you should carry a notarized letter of authorization signed by the missing parent(s) or guardian(s). A notarized birth certificate showing only one parent, a parent’s death certificate, or a court order of child custody may also be permissible. Failure to have proper documentation could result in denial of boarding by the airline, due to international child protection laws.
