2024 Daily Tour Itinerary
Day 1 • Belize City, Belize
Caravan welcomes you to Belize, an English speaking ecological paradise. Explore the wonders of the Belize Barrier Reef, uncover the mysteries of the ancient Maya and be enchanted by wildlife refuges. Belize is an easy-going country of smiles and warm Caribbean breezes. Fly into Philip Goldson International Airport, (BZE) in Belize City, Belize. Transfer on your own using the official airport taxi service. Enjoy a three-night stay at your Belize City hotel. Rooms are available for check-in after 3:00 p.m. Dinner is on your own. Join Caravan for an 8:00 p.m. welcome briefing.
Day 2 • Altun Ha, Baboon Sanctuary
This morning, drive north along the Belize River to the Mayan archaeological site of Altun Ha, “Rockstone Pond.” Visit the main plaza and see the Temple of the Sun God. Altun Ha was a major Mayan trading center. Here, the Mayan world’s largest jade object was unearthed. Next, visit the Baboon Sanctuary, home to more than 3,500 black howler monkeys. Hike through the rainforest. Look and listen for howler monkeys in the jungle canopy above. Their howling can be heard from over a mile away. Lunch. Then, a sightseeing drive of the waterfront of Belize City, a former capital of the country, adorned with well preserved colonial architecture. Enjoy dinner.

Day 3 • Cahal Pech, Belize Zoo
Drive west this morning through coastal savannas and tropical forests to enter the Cayo District to explore Cahal-Pech. This majestic palatial residence, built over 3,200 years ago, served as the home of the Mayan ruling class. Perched on a bluff, the residential grounds have commanding views of the Macal River Valley below. Discover seven interconnecting small plazas and over 30 small structures including temples, ball courts and an altar. Lunch in San Ignacio, located on the western foothills of the Maya Mountains. Next, visit the Belize Zoo, home to native Belizean wildlife. The zoo’s enclosures are designed to mimic the animal’s natural habitat. See tapirs, jaguars, spider monkeys, keel-billed toucans and scarlet macaws. Resident Iguanas and agoutis freely roam the zoo’s pathways. Enjoy dinner.

Day 4 • Boat Ride to San Pedro, Ambergris Caye
Embark on a 90 minute water taxi boat ride this morning from Belize City to Ambergris Caye. The largest of the 450 cayes gracing the Belize Barrier Reef. The island spans one mile in width and 25 miles in length. Ambergris’s close proximity to the reef makes it the country’s most popular tourist destination. You will arrive midday at the Water Taxi Terminal in San Pedro, the island’s main town. Your resort hotel is just a 3 minute walk away. Transportation on Ambergris revolves around walking, biking or navigating a golf cart as the island only has a few full-sized automobiles. Lunch is on your own. Rooms will be available after 2:00 p.m. Enjoy a three-night stay at your hotel in San Pedro. Enjoy dinner.

Day 5 • Glass Bottom Boat Ride, Hol Chan Marine Reserve
This morning, enjoy a glass bottom boat ride over the turquoise blue waters of the Belize Barrier Reef. (Please note the boat ride time may vary and be scheduled in the afternoon). Belize’s 190 mile long reef is second in length only to Australia's Great Barrier Reef. Departing from San Pedro, a 45 minute boat ride takes you to Shark Alley, a protected marine area, teeming with nurse sharks, Atlantic stingrays and occasional sea turtles. Next, to the nearby Hol Chan Marine Reserve, a UNESCO world heritage site and Belize's best snorkeling spot. After anchoring, you have an opportunity to snorkel in shallow waters amidst colorful coral reefs and over 500 species of fish. Non-snorkelers can view marine life from the glass bottom of the boat. (Snorkeling gear is provided but bringing your own equipment ensures best comfort and fit). Return to San Pedro. Lunch is on your own. Afternoon at leisure. Dinner.

Day 6 • San Pedro, Ambergris Caye
Enjoy a full day at leisure to explore the island or to simply relax at your beautiful hotel. San Pedro is the quintessential sun-kissed Belizean beach town with its swaying palm trees and pastel colored houses. The sandy streets of downtown are lined with an array of small shops, art galleries and restaurants. Reggae music enlivens the air. Diving and fishing excursions are available for a fee. Lunch and dinner on your own.

Day 7 • Boat Ride to Belize City
Free time this morning in San Pedro. Lunch is on your own. Then, take a 90 minute water taxi boat ride this morning from Ambergris Caye back to Belize City. You will arrive mid afternoon. Enjoy a farewell dinner.

Day 8 • Belize City, Belize
Your tour ends this morning at your hotel in Belize City. Breakfast is included only after 7:00 a.m. Caravan includes departure transfers on the day the tour ends from your hotel to Philip Goldson International Airport, (BZE) in Belize City, Belize. The Spanish architectural designed building is set amongst lush tropical gardens and offers breathtaking views of the Caribbean Sea and the Belize Barrier Reef which is just a half-mile away. The Sun Breeze has a restaurant, bar, swimming pool and its own private beach. Free Wifi.

Transfer on your own from the Philip Goldson International Airport, (BZE) to your hotel, the Biltmore Plaza Best Western Plus Mile 3, Northern Highway. Once you have exited customs and collected your baggage at the airport, proceed to the official taxi service known as “Ladyville Taxi Association.” The taxis are located on your left at the exit door of the airport. Here you can request your taxi. Please make sure your taxi has the official green license plate. The driving time from the airport to the hotel is approximately 20 minutes depending on traffic. The cost will range from $20-$30 US Dollars plus tip. Payment can be made by US Dollars or via credit card. Currency exchange and ATMs are available in the airport. When you arrive at your hotel please identify yourself as a Caravan tour member to the front desk personnel.

Belize requires a current U.S. passport valid for six months after your date of entry. Non U.S. citizens, please check passport and visa requirements. Note: If you are travelling with children under 18 years old without both parents or legal guardians, you should carry a notarized letter of authorization signed by the missing parent(s) or guardian(s). A notarized birth certificate showing only one parent, a parent’s death certificate, or a court order of child custody may also be permissible. Failure to have proper documentation could result in denial of boarding by the airline, due to international child protection laws.

This is a casual tour. Casual wear is suggested for sightseeing and daytime travelling. Dress code for evenings is casual. Suit jackets for men and dresses for women are never required.
